SQUAWKS 3 “Networking”

SQUAWKS 3 “Networking”

So, let’s cut to the chase. Networking is an integral part of growing your brand, whether it be music, art or literature. To some degree you might be networking with friends, music venues and other artists in your local stomping grounds. That’s cool, but in order to grow, you need to spread your wings and open yourself up to the world! Large corporations have departments to care of all of that, but as Indie Artists, we are on our own. But, not really, if you’re Networking that is! How can it be accomplished? Well, we’re going to touch on some basics in order to create a solid foundation to build on. Networking after all, means communicating with people, and being able to get in touch with one another, so social web sites are helpful. I’m assuming that you have a personal Facebook page, e-mail, etc. That’s all well and good, but since you can have more that one page on FB, you really need to have an Artist Specific page. That means a page with your brand name, some artwork, a bio, experience and so on. What this does is give you a base to work from, and a place for the other billions of people worldwide to meet you. I mean you can use your personal FB page too, but your art or music mixed in with pictures of your pets, babies, car wreck and Christmas from 1984, is simply lame. Facebook has a Meta App that will be helpful in your developing your page. Take your time and think about what you’re trying to present, make a plan, THEN get to work! You can change things later if you want too. You want a nice looking page, that’s easy to fathom, and is welcoming for whoever pops in for a vis.

Now FB is a good start, but there’s more! While on FB, you might as well get an Instagram account. They want a thumbnail pic to use for your account. Choose your band, book, or business art picture with a short spiel that explains what you’re all about. What’s nice about Instagram, is the gazillion people using it! More people? More Networking! It will take a little time to get used to it, but once you do it’s great! I will say, that for us, here at KSM, we find Indie Artists DAILY to promo on Instagram, and from every genre of music, art and literature. You can place an ad on site that will garner attention from all over the world. Check out The Keltstache Music site, and the ad we’ve been running, in our search for Indie Artists. Let’s just say we’re working HARD to keep up. Tip! If you come across a post that includes a lot of X’s, Lips, and Hearts along with a sultry name, visit at your own risk. Life can be a box of chocolates, or….other things. Also, you will come across private accounts. Unless you know the individual, it’s private for a reason. Again, your choice. Your request may be denied by the poster anyway, but frankly I try to make friends and not piss people off. Not good for business, ya know?

Also included on Instagram are numerous Radio Stations that play Indie Music. And they would just LOVE to have your uploaded tunage to add to their rotations! Click on and check their profiles and off you go! See who else is following those stations, make friends and be a friend and follower in return…Now you are Networking! There are also tons of Venues listed all over the world, and maybe even close to your town but not IN your town. That info can help you gig out of your comfort zone. Yep! Growing wings!

And remember, you can Network with us, here at Keltstache Indie Promo! We are on FB of course at Keltstache Music, and on Instagram with the same name of course. To get started Networking, check out who is following us and who we are following, on both FB and Instagram! You’re also obviously on our web page now, so peruse the Indie Artists in the Discography pages, the Art page, Featured Artist section, the upcoming Show section, and the Indie Radio Station page.

It’s a good start. Now get to work, and we’ll see you around the ether! And always remember to Rock Onward!  Kimbo
